Minor Panic Attack

Easton had his one year check up this week. Everything was routine until about an hour after we arrived home. He was sitting at the table eating lunch, but he seemed to be distressed about something. I wasn't too concerned at first since his appetite and acceptance of food have gone down greatly since his birthday- I figured this probably had something to do with his exorbitant consumption of cake on his big day.
When I came at sat next to him after cleaning up the other kiddos I realized he was furiously rubbing his feet and ankles together. I pulled off his socks and discovered his little ankles were all swollen! At that point I figured he must be having an allergic reaction to one of his shots. All I could think of is how long was it going to be before he couldn't breathe?!? Worst case scenario momma here, guilty as charged...
Of course it's lunch time so the doctor's office was closed. It took forever about 5 minutes for the doctor on call to get a hold of me. He said it sounded like a rare reaction and to treat him with Benadryl until the symptoms disappeared. Needless to say, I sent up the pack 'n' play in my room and got very little sleep that first night. I was up constantly, checking to make sure he was not having any trouble breathing.

We ended up back at the doctors the next day because the rash worsened and I wanted to be 100% sure that was what we were dealing with. The doctor took one look at him when she came though the door and confirmed it. Our little buddy must be allergic to either the chicken pox or MMR vaccine. Not sure what will do when he needs his booster down the road, but so glad the whole ordeal is over with! It took 4 days to clear up. I don't know how parents who have kids with severe allergies do it!

First Birthday Bash!

We got to celebrate Easton's big day with family and friends yesterday, what a blast! Since we expected some where in the range of 20-25 people I went the easy route and planned a taco bar. A little on the messy side, but not difficult to prepare or set up. I also took a simple route for theme/decor to help keep it inexpensive yet fun. I'd seen a few ideas on Pintrest using balls or balloons in primary colors and ran with it. The dollar store is a great place to pick up party supplies and I was able to get a lot of stuff for a steal!

He was all about the presents until it was time to actually open them.

Ready to dive in

Taking it slow at first...

Going for it!

Licking the plate clean, I think he liked it!

Easton had a blast and is so blessed to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends. Thanks to everyone who made the journey from out of town to celebrate with us and those of you who couldn't make it, but sent your love and best wishes from afar. I still can't believe our little boy is one...

ONE!

I know I've said this a thousand times, but where does the time go?!? It seems like just yesterday we were in the hospital with you and you were giving us a heart attack with your apnea episodes. One year later you are crawling around the house at top speeds giving your mommy panic attacks with your latest trick or feat!
Mommy heard you crying and I ran to the playroom, but couldn't find you. Turns out you were crawling around in sissy's stuff and landed like this in a box!
You sleep for 11-12 hours at night and still take two naps a day. Sometimes we miss the morning nap which you do fine with, but it makes getting back on schedule a little tough. I'm a bit nervous a the trend we've developed in our house though- when Emma was a baby, I didn't get her out of bed until 8:00. With you mommy never gets to stay in bed past 7:00. This can only leave me to wonder what will happen when babe number 3 joins the family....

You still have a pretty healthy appetite. I can't believe you're such a little peanut yet, it leaves me to wonder where all that food is going! At your doctors appointment you weighed in at 18lbs 10 oz, ironically exactly what your sister weighed at her one year check up. You eat three meals a day, nurse four times and will snack throughout the day when ever something is offered. There isn't much you won't eat with the exception of peas. You'll even eat salad if you have ranch to dip it in. We have another ranch addict on our hands I'm afraid!

Currently you still have no interest in walking. You have no problem pulling yourself up and cruising around. However, if we try to hold your hands and help you walk your legs turn into spaghetti noodles and you collapse to the floor. You have started a new crawling technique on your hands and feet with your butt up in the air. I think the wood floors hurt your little knees so this is the solution you have come up with to protect them. It's entertaining to watch for sure! You've also added the word 'truck' to your vocab, making daddy so proud.

We have finally conquered the staff infection and you are back in cloth diapers. Some are on the largest setting while others are still on the second setting, just depends on the fit we are going for. Clothes sizes are all over the place. You still wear a lot of your 9 month shirts and jammies, but we had to put away all the 9 month and 6-12 month pants away and you strictly wear 12 month ones. We struggle a little still though because, as before, they are perfect in length yet way to big around the waist so I can't seem to keep many of them on you.

There were a few more firsts for you this month-playing in the snow, going for a snowmobile ride, Valentine's day.

You're such a sweet, cuddly boy. Over the last year you have brought countless smiles to our face and unmeasurable joy to our lives. You are loved and adored by mommy, daddy and your big sis as well as your extended family. I pray as you continue to grow you come to know the Father's love and look to Him for wisdom and strength as you journey through life. We love you little man!

Happy Love Day!

We kept Valentine's day pretty low key around here. I mean you should use every day to let the people around you know how much you love them, right?
Most of the day was spent working around the house to get last minute stuff done for Easton's big birthday bash this weekend. Emma also spent some time doing crafty Valentine things. She was thrilled to see the rose daddy brought home for her, even if she wished for a purple one.
We had burgers and sweet potato fries for dinner, a favorite of Jason's complete with sparkling white grape juice. Pretty classy, huh? Emma loves to have sparkling juice out of a big girl cup, which can make any day pretty special in her book.

Dinner was followed by heart shaped brownies with vanilla ice cream and red sprinkles. I pulled out all the stops clearly ;) It was a relaxing evening full of family- perfect for me!

This little guy isn't even walking yet, but he's sure to keep me on my toes!

How can you get upset with such a sweet face?!?

Daddy Daughter Dance

Emma and Jason went on a special 'date' last night to the daddy-daughter dance our church puts on every year. We were battling the flu here on Thursday so I was a little nervous they were going to miss it, but nothing was going to stop miss Emma from going. She picked a fancy dress out of her closet and was so pumped to going dancing with daddy. She's becoming quite the daddy's girl these days.
Turns out she was a bit of a turkey when it came to actual dancing... Sometimes she was excited to dance with Jason while other moments she wanted to be up on the stage with the other little girls. One minute she wanted daddy by her side and the next she was telling him, "Don't look at me!" Needless to say it was a bit trying for Jason and maybe a tad overwhelming for our little princess. However she came home very excited and looking forward to the one next year :)
Hopefully they can make many more memories like these in the years to come!

Sister Love

Some days it feels like all I do is get after the Emma for picking on her brother. I know she loves him, but we're still learning how to love gently and not be over bearing.

They are finally learning to play together and there is nothing I love more than to hear them giggle as they chase each other back and forth through the house.

Yet this also means Easton is into more things and constantly bothering his sister by touching her toys or trying to play with whatever Emma has. This leads to an angry big sister who forgets that he is little and doesn't know how to redirect him or handle the situation.

So when I come upon this little seen it makes my heart melt.
Emma was sharing a snack with Easton. Never mind that she's not supposed to have food upstairs....
